Superscope PMR61 - Professional Audio Recorder
SuperscopeSuperscope PMR61 - Professional Audio Recorder
Audio recording of meeting and conferences, and events such as music performances, has been a constant in the professional world for decades. Regardless of the purpose of these recordings, everyone benefits from a reliable, accurate, clear recording that is easily referenced, distributed, and transcribed.
Enter the Superscope PMR61. A brand synonymous with professional audio recording, Superscope has created professional audio devices for more than five decades. The PMR61 is the next generation, and possibly the world's smartest digital audio recorder.
- Automatically detects and selects the correct input source.
- Record Check (automatically detects and selects mic/line attenuation, input source levels & record levels).
- Auto-switching internal stereo condenser microphones and speaker.
- Records redundantly to 16GB Internal Memory & popular USB flash drives.
- Internally charges affordable, non-proprietary, NiMH batteries when connected to AC. Automatic switched backup when AC is disrupted and guards against file corruption.
- Flexible bit rates and sample frequencies capture long meeting files that can be simply attached to an email.
Simple Design and Operation
The PMR61 is clearly a different type of recorder. Its uncluttered, non-technical design is comfortable in any meeting, interview or conference room, while still compact enough to fit in a briefcase or backpack. However, easy operation is the key to the PMR61 design. Users will immediately recognize the lack of buttons and switches that often introduce risk into the recording process.
With a simple top panel layout consisting of only four buttons, the user has little opportunity for error. All critical setup functions are included in the touch screen menu, which not only gives immediate status during recording, but also allows for easy setup, navigation, and operation.
Auto Detect Inputs / Auto Input Gain Setting
Not everyone is a skilled audio engineer. Correct input selection, input gain adjustments and record levels are paramount in achieving the desired results.
PMR61, Superscope’s revolutionary design, automatically senses input sources and determines correct recording parameters. “Record Check” is an automated process that determines the setup for you. During Record Check, a process lasting for 12 seconds, the PMR61 selects the appropriate input gain for each channel, and optimizes the recording levels to provide a professional recording setup. Afterwards, just touch to listen to the test results and you’re ready to record.
Automatic Start Record
Experience has taught us the simple fact that recordings fail because no one remembered to press record. Automatic Start Record is a function that can be set to automatically begin recording when the unit is powered on; ideal for one on one interviews, or in court proceedings where reliable recording is necessary. Automatic Start Record can also be set to begin recording when the microphone senses a pre-determined audio level. This function is ideal in meeting environments or in conference recording applications where start times are sometimes varied and the recorder is unattended.
Universal Media
From our early days working with analog cassette tapes to our first digital CD-R and solid-state recorders, we have designed audio recorders for a number of media platforms. The PMR61 continues this legacy by utilizing a combination of internal solid-state memory as well as a grab and go format like USB. With the side mounted, USB 2.0 port, simply plug in a readily available USB flash drive and have recordings ready to go, instantly upon finish.
For applications where archiving is important, the PMR61 includes 16GB of internal memory that can hold up to 4,300 hours of recordings. Both the Internal and USB media can be recorded to simultaneously, providing file redundancy and a failsafe archive for every important event.
Batteries Internally Charged
For many applications, the PMR61 may have a permanent home at a meeting table or on a desk. In these instances, the included DC power adapter can be utilized to power the unit. However, there are some applications where the PMR61 will need to be portable and high-quality battery power is essential. While the PMR61 can operate on four off-the-shelf AA alkaline batteries, it will also work using standard store-bought AA Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) rechargeable batteries. This low-cost rechargeable technology will power the PMR61 for over 4 hours, and when plugged in, the PMR61 will automatically recharge Ni-MH batteries. Most important, when the PMR61 is operating on AC power, and if power is interrupted, the batteries will seamlessly take over, ensuring critical recording continues.
Password Protected Setup
A critical aspect of ensuring a quality recording is that no settings be altered once the recorder is setup for the event. This is where password security plays an important role in preventing a failed recording due to accidental changes to the record settings.
Additionally, in the event multiple PMR61s are used, the record settings of one unit can be uploaded via a USB flash drive to other PMR61s for fast, reliable setup.
Playback / File Identification / File Sizes
Any file recorded in the PMR61 can be played back and reviewed through any number of options: the headphone output, balanced and unbalanced line outputs, or even the internal speaker.
Moreover, the ability to easily identify files is a key feature of the PMR61. Each PMR61 recorded file can be named with two unique identifiers (User Areas), which can be included in the file name along with the date and time the recording was created. In addition, the intuitive, touch screen keyboard, makes renaming files on the PMR as easy as texting.
While the PMR61 can record CD-quality 16-bit, 44.1 kHz WAV files, it also employs non-proprietary MP3 compression settings and sample frequencies that produce greatly reduced file sizes that are easily distributed as email attachments.
Audio Recording
There are millions of business meetings, lectures, conferences, seminars, legal proceedings, music performances, and much more taking place every day requiring audio recording. These one-shot recordings can fail dramatically due to poor record settings, improper setup, or simply by not pushing the Record button. Superscope designed the PMR61 to help prevent failed recordings, and to provide an ease of setup and operation never before realized in a stand-alone audio recorder.
